The New Straits Times has passed word on that in Kuala Lumpur, a new wave of “scratch & win” scam is claiming unsuspecting victims. Now three dimensional cards are the “updated” tool instead of the classic tickets. It was learned that a 22-year-old information technology student from Jalan Klang Lama was cheated of RM3,400 a week ago. The student claimed that a couple approached him at Berjaya Times Square and requested that he opened a 3D box and supposedly he had won a car…little did he realize that he was about to be conned when they asked him to go to the automatic teller machine to withdraw some cash as “down-payment” for the car he had “won”. When he could not produce the remaining RM2,200 he was given a few “compensation” household items…it was too late when he realized that he had been conned and feeling cheated, he told his story to a taxi driver on the way home and was advised to seek the help of the MCA Public Service and Complaints Department. Sometimes, things that sound too good to be true, are simply too good to be true. It’s up to us to be wary and take notice before it’s too late and be conned of our hard earned cash.
